He was known as a deal-maker and individually introduced more bills than any other legislator. Kidd was not convicted and in 1992, his district was re-drawn and he lost the primary.

Description:  Ernest Jr. (1918-2005) was elected Democratic governor in 1958 by a huge margin. He is credited with returning fiscal order to a state tarnished by the scandal-ridden administration of Marvin Griffin. He made campaign promises to upheld segregation, but oversaw the desegregation of Atlanta schools. Prior to his term as governor, Vandiver served as lieutenant governor and state adjutant general.

Description:  Edwards Culver Kidd Jr. (1914-1995) was a Democratic state legislator from Baldwin County, holding office more than 30 years. He was known as a deal-maker and individually introduced more bills than any other legislator. Kidd encountered legal problems in a conspiracy case in 1978, in which President Jimmy Carter was called to testify. Kidd was not convicted and in 1992, his district was re-drawn and he lost the primary.

He was the first African American elected majority leader. The Walker Group was a successful business in construction and newspapers.
